The reception we gave them then was less than ideal. Here is the story of how we repelled The British Invasion and lost our souls. In late 1991, a long silenced frequency rekindled on Philippine television sets with the plaintive chant, "Love, love me do. I'll always be true. You know I love you. So please..." The Associated Broadcasting Company, once the crown jewel of Philippine television, had started to broadcast once more, 19 years after its operations were shut down by President Ferdinand Marcos as he declared martial law. The dictator was afraid of the free press, of the Roces family that had owned not just ABC-5, but also the Manila Times.
