DU1FV reviews the Artsun AR-133 Portable Audio System

A good mp3 player to bring along when you're roughing it!

I have been searching for a while for a good cheap MP3 player.  The trouble with most Chinese players around is that order of playback is in sequence and there is no easy way to navigate through your music collection. Well this model has the rare feature of Next Folder and  Previous Folder buttons.  You actually "long press" the next and previous buttons, to navigate through folders.  You can even enter the song number directly on the keypad.  I know cdr -king has some players with remotes but the remote is another thing to keep track of and misplace.

The unit can also receive FM and can memorize some stations.  And speaking of memory, if you power it off while playing a particular track, the next time you power it up it starts with the last song you played.  Now that is neat.

It will play most mp3 formats , but I had to re-encode some from my archive at constant  192,000 bit rate and sample rate of 48,000 to ensure it is read by the player. I also discovered that some stereo recordings sound a lot better when forced to mono in the conversion.  I use the built in speaker most of the time, anyway and it sounds good despite its size.  There is not too much bass but the mids are just right. I have grown a bit tired of headphones but in case you are on the train and would like to listen there is a receptacle for stereo headsets or earphones with  3.5mm plugs.   It takes both usb flash disks and sd cards.  I have tried 4gb usb drives with success. (1000 songs more or less).  You should be able to find them in some shops in Divisoria or order them from the online stores like Aliexpress, etc.

I have been using it for a few months now.  The battery is a cellphone type one (NOKIA style).  I am not sure of the quality of the battery supplied. But you could get a better one after market. It does not come with a charger but you should get a beefy 2A 5V charger and power supply for it from the Raon, E-gizmo or electronic supply houses.  The common small cellphone type 5v charger doesn't quite cut it and will not have enough juice to  both charge the battery and deliver power to the unit.

All things considered I must say I love this player and take along more often than the ipod specially when roughing it!
